THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

Academy Award winner James Marsh ("Man on Wire") helms the romantic drama starring Eddie Redmayne (of the blockbuster "Les Misérables") as theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking, world-famous as the author of A Brief History of Time, opposite Gotham Independent Film Award winner Felicity Jones ("Like Crazy"). The movie explores the excitement of the 1960s for Stephen as he studies at Cambridge University. At the dawn of a brilliant life's work, he falls passionately in love with arts student Jane Wilde. Their relationship leads him through personal and scientific challenges and breakthroughs and as his world opens up he opens up the entire world to new ways of seeing. ROSEWATER

Jon Stewart's Directorial Debut

Rosewater is based on The New York Times best-selling memoir "Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival" written by Maziar Bahari. The film marks the directorial debut of "The Daily Show" host Jon Stewart and stars Gael García Bernal. Rosewater follows the Tehran-born Bahari, a broadcast journalist with Canadian citizenship. In June 2009, Bahari returned to Iran to interview Mir-Hossein Mousavi, who was the prime challenger to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. As Mousavi's supporters rose up to protest Ahmadinejad's victory declaration hours before the polls closed, Bahari endured personal risk by sending footage of the street riots to the BBC. Bahari was arrested by police, led by a man identifying himself only as "Rosewater," who tortured and interrogated him over the next 118 days.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare

One Night Only at The Del Mar

Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius – but Demetrius is supposed to be marrying Hermia… When the Duke of Athens tries to enforce the marriage, the lovers take refuge in the woods and wander into the midst of a dispute between the king and queen of the fairies.

Shakespeare put some of his most dazzling dramatic poetry at the service of this teasing, glittering, hilarious and amazingly inventive play, whose seriousness is only fleetingly glimpsed beneath its dreamlike surface.

Michelle Terry won the 2011 Olivier Award for her portrayal of Sylvia in Tribes (Royal Court). Michelle returns to the Globe having previously played the Princess of France in Love’s Labour's Lost (2007).

"Directing with a cool, steady hand that renounces shaky-cam the way Fletcher would denounce rock 'n roll and getting strong performances from his two leads, Chazelle provides a potent metaphor for artistic ambition as both a religion and an addiction."      - Time Magazine

"The film works, often wonderfully, as a remarkable visualization of jazz music - you feel it and breathe it, just like the musicians - and as a showcase for the two actors at its center."

-Seattle Times

PELICAN DREAMS

What's it like to try to get to know a flying dinosaur? Sundance-and-Emmy-Award-winning filmmaker Judy Irving ("The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill") follows a wayward California brown pelican from her "arrest" on the Golden Gate Bridge into care at a wildlife rehabilitation facility, and from there explores pelicans' nesting grounds, Pacific coast migration, and survival challenges. The film is about wildness: how close can we get to a wild animal without taming or harming it? Why do we need wildness in our lives, and how can we protect it? Pelican Dreams, stars "Gigi" (for Golden Gate) and Morro (a backyard pelican with an injured wing).
